The Job

Working as the Head of software engineering, your job will be to manage 30+ software engineers who are matrixed across multiple agile teams. You will directly line manage 4 lead developers who intern will manage a small team. Your team will be based mainly in UK and India, some are based in China.

As the engineering manager your job will be to work with other “Heads of” (QA, Product management, change, Business analysis, architecture) to ensure that the complex landscape of product builds and client projects are properly resourced.

You will help to define and implement process, where it is needed helping the engineering team become a little more mature, without encumbering the engineers with frustrating bureaucracy. As such experience of implementing TDD development is great.

Your job will be to make sure your team is delivering at their very best, understanding how to increase velocity in your engineering teams is going to be super important.

As a manager you create a high performing culture with the needs of a team that is highly experienced and skilled.

You will often be involved in architectural conversations and play a key part in the technical strategy of the organisation. This is a very Agile business.

The technical stack is NodeJs, AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Docker and Python

About you

You will be a skilled head of engineering with a background in hands on software engineering (back end). You will be technically minded and able to code (not that you will). You be an expert with delivering in an agile environment and flexible enough to not let a process get in the way of quick, clean delivery.

You must able be a great communicator and a great line manager, managing teams of 20+ software engineers.

Location

Hybrid – 2 days per week based in the City (London) – brilliant area, lots of food choices available
