Job Overview:

As a Technical Officer, you will support and deputise for Senior Technical Officers in managing the maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems associated with the operation of Tower Bridge. This role includes overseeing technical staff, managing a portion of the maintenance programme, and ensuring the efficient operation of all equipment related to bridge lifts and associated facilities.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage and allocate technical tasks according to the Planned Preventative Maintenance programme, ensuring work meets set standards.
  • Supervise Technical Assistants, including performance appraisals, leave management, and handling first-line complaints.
  • Assess equipment needs, order necessary supplies, and support the development of maintenance procedures.
  • Respond to technical emergencies and allocate resources, including liaising with contractors as needed.
  • Act as the primary technical contact during commercial and hospitality events, ensuring all client expectations are met.
  • Oversee and assist in the maintenance of all bridge-related equipment, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Perform bridge driving duties, supervise bridge lifts, and participate in the 24/7 on-call roster.
  • Maintain audio-visual systems, support digital content within exhibitions, and recommend improvements.
  • Provide general maintenance support, including safety checks, minor repairs, and event setup.
  • Deliver engineering tours and talks, represent Tower Bridge in promotional activities, and uphold excellent customer service standards.
  • Conduct Health & Safety risk assessments as a designated Risk Assessor.


Requirements:

  • Experience in technical or maintenance roles, ideally within a heritage or operational environment.
  • Strong supervisory skills and ability to manage a small team.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to respond to emergencies effectively.
  • Commitment to health and safety standards and customer service excellence.
