FPG is looking for a Technical Director of Mechanical Engineering to join one of the largest and most respected engineering consultancies in the industry. As the Technical Director, you will oversee the development of mechanical engineering solutions in mission-critical environments, ensuring compliance with codes and standards, and providing expert guidance to both internal teams and clients. This role will play a key part in growing and developing a highly skilled team of engineers while driving new business opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of mechanical design strategies, ensuring alignment with new technologies to support customer needs and business goals.
- Stay informed on the latest advancements in mechanical engineering and data centre technology, recommending innovations to improve infrastructure reliability and efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish design criteria and develop budget strategies that meet client needs and organisational objectives.
- Provide expert technical review and direction for global site selection programs, including sub-station design and site power distribution in partnership with electrical utility providers.
- Plan, organise, and manage detailed work packages, including specifications, reports, calculations, and drawings/models at various design stages.
- Advise clients on mechanical systems and concepts, ensuring compliance with safety codes and industry standards.
- Oversee critical cooling infrastructure, including cooling generation topologies, redundancy requirements, and calculations for cooling and fuel storage.
- Lead the development and implementation of HVAC, LEV, and LTHW systems, as well as non-critical cooling and heating solutions.
- Manage public health systems (water, sewage, drainage), fuel systems, leak detection, trace heating, and fire protection systems.
- Maintain vendor relationships and drive continuous professional development within the team.
- Extensive expertise with BMS and control systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong focus on data centre infrastructure.
- Expertise in mechanical system design for mission-critical environments.
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
