Who we are looking for

A Regulatory Data Technical Lead, who will take the lead on the function’s architectural design and solution engineering.


International regulators from around the world often require gambling companies to write software reporting systems to communicate jurisdiction specific information to them. Our long term strategy is to gain licenses throughout the world’s regulated markets as they are made available and the output of this team is key to that strategy.


The software includes high throughput database centric distributed applications, batch reporting, SOAP and REST API integration, windows and web services, web applications and SSRS. Given the importance of the system payloads, these applications must be tuned for performance and be extremely reliable and of a very high quality. These applications must operate within extremely low tolerances of error.


You will play a critical role in formulating and evolving the function’s current and future systems from the perspectives of software engineering, architecture, patterns and solution design.


This role is eligible for inclusion in the Company’s hybrid working policy


Preferred skills and experience

  • Commercial experience of high throughput, real time, database centric distributed system engineering including experience of defining the architecture, producing the solution design and writing the code.
  • Very strong SQL Server and RDBMS knowledge including SQL Server internals, performance, database design, database patterns and queuing in SQL Server.
  • Good understanding of C# including experience of integrating with web based SOAP APIs, implementing server side RESTful web services, windows services, web applications.
  • Excellent understanding of software architectures and patterns such as distributed systems, database driven architecture, asynchronous processes, queuing, multi-threading, event driven development.
  • Ability to master extremely complicated Business and data models and adapt these to third party models.
  • Experience of migrating a complex technical landscape from on premise SQL Server to a cloud hosted solution.
  • Experience of producing functional and architectural modelling documentation according to industry recognised standards and models for example C4, UML, IDEF and ERD.
  • Collaborative nature and capable of drawing out ideas and contributions from the most junior to the most senior of technical staff in order to define the best solutions with maximum team buy in.
  • Ability to work under pressure with changing conditions and priorities, at a fast pace and to tight deadlines.
  • Preferable experience of working within a regulatory framework and an appreciation of the significance and sensitivities this involves.


Main Responsibilities

  • Leading the function’s architectural approach, solution specification, design patterns and general engineering approaches drawing on the existing knowledge, experience and skills within the function.
  • Ensuring that consistency is maintained across the estate, including proactively and continually assessing the viability of refreshes of existing legacy systems to retrofit system wide advancements resulting in scalable, performant, maintainable and resilient working software.
  • Building a deep and wide technical knowledge of the function’s estate with a view to becoming the function’s primary authority on both the estate’s technical design and implementation.
  • Working towards becoming an expert on the relevant regulatory specifications, our data models and how these interrelate, both logically and as implemented.
  • Collaborating with architectural and technical design teams across the department to establish and implement a technical design for the migration of regulatory reporting systems from SQL Server to a Cloud hosted solution.
  • Playing a key role during requirement gathering phases of projects and small works with an emphasis on translating these into elegant technical solutions.
  • Communicating solution design to key stakeholders, project management, line management and software developers ensuring that the communication used is appropriate for the audience.
  • Providing Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) to stakeholders in the early stages of project planning and assisting the team leaders to break up solutions into appropriately sized work packages for allocation to the team.
  • Creating and maintaining appropriate needs-led documentation and diagrams which communicate the right detail to the correct audience in order to allow them to best fulfil the identified tasks.
  • Ensuring the team are given significant opportunities to provide their input and insight during all stages of solution design so that solutions are created collaboratively and there is complete buy in across the function.
