Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for an Underwriting Technician (UT) in London, who will have responsibility for ensuring the Power Technical Property Team are enabled to transact business effectively, through accurate timely and complete recording of data, investigation of issues and relevant engagement with external and internal stakeholders. Act as Coordinator for all UK Property Underwriting Technicians. As a contributor to process and system-based improvements in support of the Underwriting team, the role will have significant involvement with the Operations department. The Underwriting Technician will be a key driver of task migration to our operational support area through identifying suitable tasks, training and feedback. As part of a growing business, cross-functional collaborative initiatives will form an ongoing part of the role.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist Underwriting Manager for the Power Technical Property Team with data management and oversight reporting
  • Assist with submission reviews and completion of rating tools
  • Catastrophe modelling and reviewing output for Underwriter referral
  • Coordinate UK Property Underwriting Technicians, ensuring UT resources can support all Property Teams
  • Assist coordination with Risk Control
  • Build and maintain reporting suite and GPW forecasting for Power Technical Property Team
  • Assist Power Technical Property Underwriters with account recording workflow management, including Pool Re and The Source (Underwriting platform).
  • Work closely with Xceedance to ensure consistent and accurate booking information
  • Provide inputs to relevant risk modelling tools
  • Monitor and manage Underwriting file integrity
  • Support management in producing and monitoring portfolio and facility metrics
  • Participate in the reporting and external engagement for receivables
  • Represent the Operations function within Underwriting team
  • Observe and capture requirements for process improvements, software integration or task migration

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Ideally 3-5 years commercial insurance experience required (preferably Technical Property)
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills must have exceptional attention to detail
  • In-depth understanding of underwriting practices throughout the policy life cycle
  • Must be proactive and able to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Being able to work in a fast-paced environment dealing with highly confidential information
  • Demonstrated ability to support and build workflow and process
  • Minimum of A-level experience, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent competence in MS Office applications
