Job Requirements/Description

About The Role

At the National Composites Centre, we're building the future of Composites, so when industry wants to advance, they come to us. And when they come to us, you're there to make things happen.

As a Principal Research Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the technical quality of engineering outputs across the NCC’s Hydrogen portfolio, while supporting the future direction of research in this evolving area. You'll lead some of our major upcoming programmes, working with senior project managers and engineers across the organisation to ensure technical excellence in delivery.

With the wide range of technologies that feed into these programmes, from design to automation, digital engineering to materials, this is an opportunity to boost your experience and take a leading role.

So, what are we looking for?

  • Leadership of technical programmes – You’ll bring experience as a technical leader, with a track record of upholding high technical standards across work packages. While composites knowledge is desirable, it’s not essential.
  • Technology - While composites aren't essential, experience with research and product development are.
  • Creative Problem Solver – You’ll have a demonstrated ability to think creatively, make informed decisions, and develop effective solutions, especially in ambiguous and dynamic settings.
  • Hydrogen – This role plays a crucial, strategic part in our Hydrogen team, so a strong interest or expertise in Hydrogen innovation is important.

What do we offer in return?

  • Hybrid and flexible working as standard, annual salary reviews, company paid private medical insurance, up to 12.5% employer pension contribution, great people, honorary staff status at the University of Bristol. With a genuine focus on wellbeing, EDI and learning and development this is a chance to build your career in a thriving R&D facility with a bright future.

About The Company

Not sure you meet all the requirements? Let us decide! Research shows that women and members of other underrepresented groups tend not to apply for jobs if they think they may not meet every qualification, when in fact they often do. At the NCC we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment and strongly encourage you to apply.

We ensure that all hiring decisions are made without regard to age, race, national origin, sex, disability, gender, gender identity, religion, or any other protected characteristics, and will treat all applications with the strictest confidence. We’re always open to hearing how we can support flexible working in different ways, including part-time work. Please don’t be afraid to ask about what we can do to support your needs. All requests will be carefully and fairly considered. We wish you every success in your job search.
