Our client is seeking a Global Head of Digital Software Engineering to lead their digital transformation efforts, offering a hybrid working model with offices in London. This is a unique opportunity to drive the strategic vision and technology roadmap for a global consumer brand, shaping the future of their digital platforms and customer experiences.
As the Global Head of Digital Software Engineering your primary responsibility will be to be highly technical and develop and execute a forward-thinking digital technology strategy, focusing on high-quality customer web and app propositions. You will lead their transition from a traditional retail business to a customer-centric digital enterprise, playing a pivotal role in shaping the digital and marketing technology platforms that support new and expanding digital initiatives.
This role requires a strategic leader with a deep technical background, capable of aligning digital technology with broader business goals. You will work closely with our client's strategic Digital Engineering and Operations partners, as well as various technology change providers, to ensure the company stays at the forefront of technological innovation within the omni-channel retail space.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive digital technology strategy to drive innovation and meet business objectives.
- Team Management: Oversee outsourced engineering teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.
- Technical Expertise: Provide hands-on technical guidance when necessary, supporting the design, development, and implementation of scalable and reliable digital solutions.
- Stakeholder Communication: Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into strategic initiatives that resonate with non-technical audiences.
- Product Transformation: Lead digital product transformation initiatives, enhancing customer experience and driving business growth.
- Technology Assessment: Evaluate digital technology investments, guiding decisions on SaaS products, and balancing the need for feature development with technical enablers.
- Continuous Improvement: Champion a culture of continuous learning and improvement, encouraging experimentation and professional development within the engineering team.
Skills and Experience:
- Extensive experience in digital software development, with a background as a Head of Technology or Staff Software Engineer.
- Proven track record of leading engineering teams across front-end, back-end, and mobile platforms (ideally Node.js, React, Kotlin, and Swift).
- Strong knowledge of cloud-based microservices architecture, CI/CD practices, and observability.
- Experience driving extreme programming practices within an engineering team, including TDD, continuous delivery, and pair programming in in B2c, D2C, Food & Beverage, Food Delivery, FMCG Entity or Franchise or Hospitality organizations.
- Exceptional leadership skills, with experience managing offshore 3rd party delivery and support teams.
- A deep understanding of aligning technology with business objectives, with a focus on continuous improvement and ability to drive architectural and system design discussions and decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
