Job Opportunity: Technical Publications Manager


Join an innovative engineering company in Bristol as a Technical Publications Manager! We are seeking a dynamic leader to take charge of our technical content authoring services. This permanent position offers a flexible hybrid working model, allowing you to balance your professional and personal life effectively.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships across various business units to manage a diverse project portfolio.
  • Develop clear content plans, timelines, budgets, resources, and deliverables for all projects.
  • Ensure timely project delivery while upholding high-quality content standards and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Act as the primary contact for new technical content requests and enhancements.
  • Lead a team of technical authors, promoting a collaborative hybrid working environment.
  • Create and maintain content writing processes, publishing them on the company’s Business Management System.
  • Drive adherence to industry standards through certification and uphold content quality.
  • Explore innovative digital content delivery methods, such as embedded help content, video, and augmented reality.
  • Identify skill gaps within the team and develop training and recruitment strategies.
  • Establish a modular content management system with robust version control, integrating it with existing PLM systems.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to information provision, export control, and health & safety.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, managing priorities and challenges.
  • Oversee internal and external cost drivers, including licensing and third-party content suppliers.


Education/Qualifications:

  • A degree in engineering or a technical discipline where English is the native language, or
  • A qualification in English language or literature with a demonstrable technical portfolio.


Professional Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong experience with MadCap Flare or similar desktop publishing software.
  • Previous experience as a technical author.
  • Excellent team leadership, performance monitoring, and coaching skills.
  • Familiarity with Adobe FrameMaker or similar tools.
  • Strong planning, budgeting, and resource management skills.
  • Project management experience is a plus.

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, extract necessary information, and define clear objectives.
