Being a Software Engineering Manager at Polaris

In this role, you will be creating technology that help our customers make the world safe and fair.

Our goal is to make products that our clients find indispensable, helping them run their operations seamlessly and super efficiently.


We are looking for someone who is naturally curious, keen to keep learning and passionate about technology as well as people, who wants to create truly ground-breaking products. Is this role right for you?

Whilst we don’t expect you to be hands-on coding, we are looking for someone who has strong technical and delivery experience and worked as a software engineer in previous roles.

  • Loves leading, mentoring and growing their team in the creation, deployment and maintenance of a defined set of technology products

  • Owns, manages and oversees the architectural patterns for all the software you are accountable for
  • Likes working with peers and colleagues to ensure we have the best technical practices and standards and that our architecture and code works holistically across the entire organisation
  • Ensures good practices in your team as well as influencing the rest of the organisation
  • Builds strong relationships with other teams both within and outside of Technology
  • Is always looking for and implementing opportunities for continuous improvement, aiming for that high bar of engineering excellence
  • Through your behaviours, contributes to fostering a positive culture across the wider organisation.
  • Enjoys the responsibility of being a manager and leader, and acting as the role model for the team


Your experience:

  • A degree and/or a masters in computer science/technical subject or equivalent hands-on experience
  • c. 5+ years’ hands-on experience working as a software engineering including distributed systems
  • c. 2+ years’ experience as a manager building, leading and developing teams in the creation of complex software systems
  • Modern delivery methods including general Agile, test-driven development, and building high-availability, self-healing platforms
  • Designing and maintaining architectural models that scale, are performant and robust
  • A wide exposure to different development techniques and best practices
  • Recruitment and interview skills, and the subsequent coaching/mentoring that helps software engineers develop and become highly effective
  • Strong communication skills, able to work at all levels from senior management to individuals from all part of the organisation
  • Have developed a flexible approach to work, adapting your thinking and delivery methods to achieve the target outcomes
  • Desirable to have full stack experience across backend, frontend and platforms e.g. Java, C#, React, Angular, Azure, AWS with strong exposure to good security practices. Knowledge of app development helpful i.e. Kotlin and Swift.
