The role

  • As a Maintenance Planning Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary where you’ll maintain the security of the United Kingdom by ensuring the submarine service is available at all times. 
  • Day-to-day, you’ll work within the high tempo and technically challenging environment of nuclear submarine maintenance planning. You will support the Submarine Lead in generating and maintaining through life maintenance plans, which optimise work package efficiency and submarine availability. 
  • Provide support to submarine programme changes and what-if scenarios. Balancing maintenance against an ever-challenging programme is key to ensuring safe, capable and available submarines
  • Use the new asset management tool, developed specifically for submarines, to provide a holistic view and approach to managing maintenance requirements through life
  • Work closely with relevant Subject Matter Experts across Babcock, the Royal Navy, MoD and Industry Partners
  • Involvement in the development of the new through life boat plan application with the rest of the team 
  • This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Maintenance Planning Engineer

  • Demonstrable experience or understanding of maintenance requirements and planning 
  • Strong communication and presentation skills 
  • Ability to produce technical reports and recommendations
  • Willingness to work toward continuous professional development 
  • Strong IT skills and experience in analysing data through Excel, or similar computer programmes  

Qualifications for the Maintenance Planning Engineer

  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering based discipline or HNC/HND or demonstrable relevant experience.

Security Clearance

  • The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) / Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
