Process Engineer / Chemical Engineer
Play a key role in designing, optimising, and improving fine inorganic processes and systems to enable current and new products to be manufactured safely, efficiently and cost effectively.
Our Company
Luxfer MEL Technologies is a global leader in the development, manufacture and supply of Magnesium and Zirconium based products and services to technology industries worldwide. We have approximately 300 employees across the UK & US.
Zirconium chemicals are produced at the Swinton (Greater Manchester) site from a range of raw materials. Our lightweight Magnesium alloys are machined or extruded to custom shapes and specifications to meet our customer requirements, and are used in high performance, safety critical aerospace, defence, healthcare, oil and gas and Formula 1.
The Role – Process Engineer / Chemical Engineer
Predominantly working within the Zirconium chemicals arena, your time will be spent both in the office and on the plant, liaising with our operational team and Engineers. You will play a key role in supporting the operation, asset management and capital project execution across the Swinton site.
Your duties will include:
- Specifying, developing, and analysing processes and equipment
- Supporting large and small capital expenditure projects from concept to commissioning
- Participating in design reviews, hazard studies and root cause analysis
- Updating and reviewing engineering documents such as piping and instrumentation diagrams, process flow diagrams and equipment data sheets
- Producing chemical engineering calculations, including mass and energy balances and fluid flow
- Developing technical solutions and communicating proposals in well-presented reports
- Providing technical and troubleshooting support to the Operations and Maintenance Team
- Supporting and providing process engineering expertise to environmental initiatives across site
- Working closely with the technical team to support new product development and the rapid scale up of new products
The Package

- A permanent contract, working 37 hours per week Monday to Friday between the hours of 9am to 5pm
- A salary in the region of £32,000 to £40,000, with the level dependent on experience

Our Requirements – Process Engineer / Chemical Engineer
- Experience gained as a Process Engineer within the chemical industry or similar
- Experience gained producing technical documents and proposals
- Degree level qualification in Chemical Engineering
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communications
- IT savvy, with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
