Health, Safety and Compliance Manager

J Dickinson and Sons is a family-owned company, with over 80 years’ experience providing a wide range of environmental services including skip hire, recycling and waste management from our 17-acre, state of the art facilities in Horwich, Bolton.

  • Salary in the region of £40,000 to £50,000, level dependent on experience and negotiable for a highly experienced Health, Safety and Compliance Manager

You’ll be based at offices located within our 17-acre recycling village in Horwich, working Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm.

The Role – Health, Safety and Compliance Manager

As the Health, Safety and Compliance Manager, you’ll be responsible for developing and overseeing control systems to prevent and manage violations of legislative guidelines and internal policies. You’ll develop and manage Compliance, Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental functions to ensure we have the right skills, processes, materials, information and procedures to consistently comply with both legislative and customer requirements, and standards such as ISO9001/14001/18001/50001.

Your duties will include ensuring that:

  • A working Environmental Management System (EMS) is in place and kept up to date
  • Compliance, Health and Safety responsibilities are shared by all employees
  • Our Integrated Management System (IMS) is fully utilised, and information is up to date at all times
  • Audits are completed in line with ISO9001 standards and that the Compliance, Health and Safety Officer is actively working towards achieving ISO14001 standards
  • Safe Operating Practices (SOP) are in place, up to date and easily accessible for all employees
  • Rigorous risk assessments and accident management systems are in place
  • The annual environmental plan is up to date and reviewed periodically to ensure all activities stay on track

You’ll also be responsible for:

  • Reviewing, developing and implementing all aspects of our Environmental and Health and Safety Policies
  • Monitoring, evaluating and reviewing existing, new and up and coming legislation
  • Working proactively with managers and key staff to establish and maintain improvements

Our Requirements – Health, Safety and Compliance Manager

  • Proven experience as a Health and Safety Manager
  • A IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to work with, provide advice to, train and promote excellence in health and safety for all staff
  • Superb leadership skills
  • Good IT skills and confident in the use of Microsoft Office

Although not essential, experience within and / or an understanding of the waste management industry would be advantageous.
