Unimaq Ltd is a global leader specialising in the design, development and manufacture of large precision machines and equipment to print preformed beverage cans at speeds exceeding 2000 cans per minute. The fully automated high-speed machines are designed, manufactured, built, and tested in Wrexham before being exported all over the world. As well as an established product portfolio, we are pursuing multiple cutting-edge R&D projects to take the beverage can industry to the next level.

The Role – CNC Machinist

Reporting to the Team Leader, as a CNC Machinist you will set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. You’ll also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools and maintain industrial machines. Your duties will include:

• Selecting the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work
• Setting up, adjusting, and operating all basic machine tools alongside many specialised and advanced variations of tools to perform precision machining operations
• Calculating dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and technical drawings
• Aligning and securing holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials onto machines
• Monitoring the feed and speed of machines during the machining process
• Ensuring machine parts adhere to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders
• Measuring, examining and testing completed units to detect defects and ensuring conformance to specifications using precision instrument such as micrometres
• Setting controls to regulate machining and entering commands to retrieve, input or edit computerised machine control media

Our Requirements – CNC Machinist

• Proven experience as a CNC Machinist
• Technical mindset with strong mathematical skills, and the ability to read technical drawings
• Strong problem-solving and organisational skills, with a keen eye for detail
• Creative approach to generating new and innovative ideas
• Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team

Although not essential as full training will be provided, knowledge of Hurco mills and WinMax programming would be advantageous, as would knowledge of XYZ mills / lathes, surface grinders, Mazak lathes and Haas lathes.

The Package

As a CNC Machinist, you’ll benefit from:

• A salary in the region of £28,000 to £33,000 with the level dependent on experience
• Permanent contract with full time hours, Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm although flexibility is required to meet business need
• Overtime available
• Based at our site on the Wrexham Industrial Estate (North Wales)
